Meet The Brooke 🏡Some apartments are easy to describe in square feet and bedroom numbers. The Brooke has always been more about how it feels.Tucked away in our Victorian mansion house in St Margarets, it's a wonderfully cosy one-bedroom apartment, full of colour, texture, antiques and some rather lovely statement pieces. Big bay windows look out towards the garden, there's a king-size bed, a proper kitchen and plenty of space to settle in rather than just 'stay'.In winter, there's even a fire to come home to. 🔥Perhaps that's why The Brooke has worked so well for so many different guests over the years — people relocating to London, here for work or filming, visiting family nearby, or simply needing somewhere to call home for a while.One previous guest described it as having “all you could ever need in a home from home.” Another, who stayed for a month while visiting family locally, said she loved coming back each evening to cook and relax.And that, really, is what we've always wanted The Brooke to be.Not a hotel room. It’s National Dog Day 🐾“My little dog — a heartbeat at my feet.” — Edith WhartonIt’s National Dog Day, which seems a good excuse to celebrate some of our favourite visitors to The Barons — the four-legged ones.We’ve welcomed a very diverse assortment of dogs over the years, accompanying their owners for everything from holidays and family visits to business trips and long relocations. And then, of course, there’s Bobo, our Head Housekeeper’s dog, who isn’t technically a guest at all but visits so regularly that we probably ought to put him on the staff.One of the things we’ve learnt from our longer-stay guests is that bringing a dog isn’t simply about wanting your pet with you. When you’re working away from home, relocating to a new country or living somewhere unfamiliar for several months, having that familiar face waiting for you at the end of the day can make an enormous difference.There’s evidence behind that too. This year’s @dogstrust Trust National Dog Survey found that 96% of owners believe having a dog is good for their mental health.
They get us outside. They provide company. They give structure to a strange day in a strange place. And, as anyone who’s walked a dog around Richmond will know, they’re also a great way of getting to know the neighbourhood and the neighbours.So today we’re celebrating Bobo and all the dogs who’ve made The Barons their temporary home over the years. Quite something.I have known the pub through several different stages of my own life, and it has remained what the very best British pubs have always been: a constant.A place to celebrate a World Cup, an Olympic triumph or a coronation. A place to watch an ordinary Saturday football match become temporarily very important.A place to meet friends, raise money for charity, listen to music, eat, laugh and feel part of something.But also a place where you can sit quietly with a pint, say very little and think life through without anyone asking too much of you.Over four decades, Nick and Jane have created far more than a successful hospitality business. They have made people feel safe, known and welcome. They have worked tirelessly for local charities and opened their doors again and again to the wider community.They are, quite simply, exceptional British hosts.This is why the #VATsTheProblem campaign matters.The debate about reducing VAT for hospitality is rightly about commercial survival, employment and keeping prices manageable. ☀️💛 187 Summer Holiday Hygiene Kits packed and ready to go! 💛☀️
Today was one of those days that perfectly captures what The Hygiene Bank Hampton is all about – community coming together to support local families.
With the wonderful help of Lauren and the team from Kao, the company behind @bondisands and other beauty brands, we spent the day packing 187 Summer Holiday Hygiene Kits, which will now be distributed through local Hampton schools.
Each bag contains a full set of hygiene essentials to help children and families over the long summer break, when household budgets can be particularly stretched.
A huge thank you also goes to our local schools, who embraced this appeal so generously:
💛 @lehschoolofficial Lady Eleanor Holles School, where pupils took part in a mufti day, donating hygiene products in exchange for wearing their own clothes to school.
💛 Hampton Prep’ School, whose families also organised a fantastic donation drive to support the appeal.
Every bottle of shampoo, every toothbrush and every deodorant donated will make a real difference to a local family this summer. And the suntan lotion will keep them sun safe!
Thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, packed bags and supported this appeal. These 187 bags represent so much more than hygiene products – they represent kindness, dignity and a community looking after its own.

Until she told me I had it wrong.
She’d checked on ChatGPT… and found “better rates” for our apartments.The only problem?

The apartments listed weren’t ours. The rates weren’t ours. But somehow, our address was.Now — this isn’t a criticism of AI.
